Once you start using the motivation, you know their attitude as well as their interest. Dwelling your inner to get the solution based on their interest and attitude is one of the way. At the same time you can't get the spark by using ordinary stick on the matchbox sides.

How do you motivate another person to do something.... be it make money online or anything else?
If you cannot spark an interest in them by telling them about something then demonstrating how and why you do it may work.
I think subsitute the word encourage for motivate in your approach if the 'motivation' is not effective.

Motivate by example. Instead of motivating them, you should make money online and motivate by example. Use your success to help others.
People learn by example and your getting starting making money on line may be the push they need to get started. You will not be a game changer if they are continually listening to you trying to motivate them.
What is stopping you from setting a good example and making money online?

I dare say people can't be motivated to make money unless their personality is like that.
Most people want to make money (for whatever reason, to use it, to save it for the future...). If someone doesn't want to make money, that's it. I feel that making money if something that some people want (ie. to have more money), but that other people just feel comfortable with what they have.
The latter don't want to make more money either because they have enough and feel it is unnecessary, or because they can't be bothered to try. If this last one is the case, motivation may come from ease to make money. This is, if you find a way that makes earning money easy, you can show it to them, and they may like it and be motivated.
