I believe he would, that's why there's religion.

I thought (according to christians) that God was not responsible for evil or suffering. If this is true, then the Jews are merely victims of the human free will to be complete assholes to each other. That being said, God would probably not intervene if there was a holocaust-like event with Christians as the victim instead of Jews.

That depends on which God we are talking about.

Christians have persecuted as many other Christians and non Christians alike throughout their history.

If god's willing to let his chosen people, the Jews, go through what they've been through in history, I would hate to see what happens to those who are not his chosen.

Yes God does allow Christians to suffer persecution and death. There are some called the "elect" who will be protected by God for 3 1/2 years. Also 144,000 are sealed and protected during the Great Tribulation as the elect, Revelation 7:1-8. But the great multitude wil face death, Rev 7:9. We can expect these trials and tribulations its all about who you trust and what is a stake.

We all wil die eventually if left alone to do our own thing. However when you study God's word you can see that the reward for serving God is eternal life in which we will live forever without sin. There really is no choice to those that completely understand what God is doing with humans here on earth. Sons and daughters forever, 2 Corinthians 6:17-18. This beats being dead forever. Romans 8:31-39. Jesus paved the way for us by giving his life for us. We are not to let anything keep us for being God's children forever.

Jesus said in this world we will have tribulation, but be of good cheer he has overcome the Devil and Satan and the world for us, John 15:20;16:33. Satan has permission to wear out the saints to prove them that keep God's Commandments Rev. 12:17; Daniel 12:1-7; 7:21-22; Rev.18:24.

God does not cause suffering; he will allow us to go through some things but we do not do it alone; he is always there with us and ensures that good comes out of it.

Think about it; think about something bad that has happened and you could not figure out why...think past that and how it was used as a good thing in life.

I went through some very horrible times in my life and could not figure out why "he" would allow it; why me? Then as it past and I came through it I have a much better relationship with Him and I have a stable life and family. I am now able to help other women who are going through a similiar situation with advice, guidance and support. Before I would never have cared about others that way, I probably would have just thought they deserved what they were going through.

So I hope you can see that the suffering doesn't come from him but he will be there for you to get through it.

God did know how the Jews would suffer throughout history. He warned them many times. However God did not cause the evil, nor did he "let" the evil happen.

Instead, he brings the evil to an end, for a time, and then turns around and causes something good to happen out of it. In Gen 50:20, Joseph says "though you meant it for evil, God meant it for good".

My favorite example of this is WWII. By 1941, the Nazis were killing Jews like a finely tuned machine. By 1948, the war ended, and the world was shocked at the horrors, then the UN formed, then against all odds, the nation of Israel existed again. The evil of the holocaust led to God fulfilling his promises to Israel. Whew. I wish we all could recognize a miracle when it happens right in front of us.

By the way, the answer to the question is "yes". Bible prophecy is fairly clear that in the final months before Messiah's return, many of his new believers will suffer horrors worse than any time in the history of time. Of course the non-believers will suffer the same, but many believers will be martyred. I prefer to be on God's side now, before all that mess begins.

If gods existed, and said gods were fair and just then one would think they would be obliged to put Christians through the same torture that Jews experienced. In fact they were heavily persecuted in Rome-so much so that they were forced (literally) underground. The fact that these sorts of things happen to people without any seeming discretion between the best and worst of us speaks heavily to either 1.)the non-existence of gods or 2.)the callous nature of any god or gods, should He/She/It/They exist.

There is no way around the implication that if gods exist they must be cruel-as they allow such things to happen. If they don't- or can't stop them from occurring-then they are not truly gods!

One must also take into account that said Christian God supposedly murdered his own son and himself simultaneously in order to save people he created and whose actions he should have foreseen by conceiving a son to a woman who was already married. That's murder, suicide, and adultery-leading by example would obviously not seem be a part of said god's game-plan!

I don’t believe God “lets” things happen. They may happen because of rules and other things God set in motion, but I don’t think He makes moment to moment decisions about what things may happen. I also don’t believe, as Shakespeare said, “All the world’s a stage.”

He gave us the right to make choices and He watches to see what choices we make. He also gave us rules to live by and we will need to account for our lives and our choices when we face Him after we die.

I also realize that the Bible teaches that God can become annoyed – He destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah for example. He also killed off all the human race and animals except one group (Noah, his family and some others) and two of every kind of animal (including all living things except plants).

Jesus, according to the Bible, chased the money lenders out of the temple. Earlier, He disobeyed His mother and the man who married his mother by leaving them without permission and going to the temple to teach. My wife and I have six children; I can imagine how Mary and Joseph felt when they couldn’t find Him.

Ohh, come on please ... I beg you, stop this nonsense. The Christian god is as "real" as Zeus was to the ancient Greek and as "real" as Ra was to the ancient Egyptians. Religions are but philosophies to teach us values and morals in order for societies to "work". "People" suffer because we are ignorant to each other, we are greedy and vicious. This will stop when we "smarten-up".

I think you are a little confused with your question.

Daniel and his friends didn't suffer, they were protected by the Godhead. Their faith was tested, most definitely, because they refused to worship Nebuchadnezzar's image, but they suffered no injury or harm.

As for the nation of Judah, that was invaded by the Babylonians at that time (circa 585 BC), and yes, they definitely suffered torture and death, in the their thousands, at the hands of Nebuchadnezzar's army. Those that were left were carried off into captivity to Babylon. Daniel and his friends were amongst those captives.

As Christians, though, we are called to take up our crosses and follow Him. Now that will involve suffering at different times, with various trials that will come our way which, in turn, we must endure and count as all joy.

Not easy, I know, but we have been given the Holy Spiritual power in order to do it.
