I need your help guys and gals- Is there a free or cheap software program that will allow me to copy

I want to compile various movie clips from an assortment of titles but know little to nothing about recording video from my laptop. Is there a software package in shareware that I can download so all I have to do it insert my DVD, skip to the part-record and save to my library?

Most DVD movies are encrypted so that they can't be copied by your normal software recording program. You'll need to find a special software program that says it will copy movies( I must add this software is frowned upon by the movie industry). Once you have the write software you should be OK to copy your various movie clips.

I dont know if there is one, but I don know where I would look if I needed one. I would go to cnet, www.downloads.com. They have a plethora of freeware and shareware programs for editing sound and video. It may take some time to find the right one though.

I use Handbrake. It rips video off DVDs and you can rip whatever parts you want. It can rip the whole movie or just a few scenes. It supports a variety of video and audio codecs so you can get your video in a format compatible with your software. The best part? It is free! Here is the link: http://handbrake.fr/

Hi,

I'm sure there is such a software.. but it's definitely going to cost you ... from what I hear you're in need of something that producers etc. are using.

This is what I've found, similar to that...

http://www.soft29.com/vcd_dvd_cutter.html

If you ask me, I'd convert all DVDs and cut the clips afterwards.

Here's some links that may be helpful for this purpose:

Hope I could help...

Let us know how you go with that.

I've used this dvd ripper for a while, so far it works great.

http://ipod-tool.com/dvd-software/aimersoft-dvd-ri

It can convert DVD to MP4, DVD to MPEG easily, so you can transfer DVD to iPod, put DVD on iPhone/Zune/PSP/Apple TV and other devices you like. Besides that, It allows you to trim the excrescent or special parts of movies, adjust brightness, contrast, audio, etc, .And check the audio track or caption of videos as you like.

Free download is available.

I believe you can use vlc also. It plays back dvd's. Just go into the menu and create an output stream to file and choose which encoding and encapsulation that you wish, Its open source, free to download.
