Many insects, like us, use haemoglobin to transport oxygen around their bodies, however, some - such as arthropods - use Hemocyanin instead which carries out the exact same oxygen carrying function as haemoglobin, however, instead of being bound to blood cells it is suspended in the haemolymph (the mixture of blood, lymph and interstitial fluid that fills the inside of some insects - surrounding the organs: known as an open circulatory system).
