Naturally inherited by genetics. It can also be a choice, some people have the mindset to be bisexual or both sexes, some also like only there own gender, which is also inherited. Regardless of what is inherited all living things can chose what they want to be sexually active with.

When my boyfriend and I met he said I looked "kind." Since then, we have discovered that we connect on some very deep levels, have a lot in common in terms of our past experiences and think similarly about life in general. I think that stuff like that matters a lot more than appearances.
(This is not to say that physical attraction doesn't matter at all.)
