As a parent who had a toddler who snapped into a febrile seizure within a day of first showing signs of "having a cold", I vote for the antibiotics - at least for babies and young children. I was told by the pediatrician that febrile seizures occur as a result of the speed with which a fever rises, and that ear infections are known for a rapid rise in temperature.

As for myself, I suspect I've had ear infections that I've just lived through and that have cleared up. I'll take a pain and fever reducer (like aspirin), maybe a decongestant (which can help with the fluid in the ear), and wait it out. I would never use anything in the ear that was not specifically designed to be used in the ear.

Thanks for your thoughts. I have tested the garlic oil on myself and have seen the greatest results with out anibiotics and my children have healed well with it. I also know that I will use modern medicine at any time needed. My sister's child had seizures as well with high temp so she all ways give fever reducer. Garlic oil is a natural antiboitic and I have also made Garlic lemonaide for healing colds! Thank You so much for you info and time!
