Would it really be Love?
An easy definition of love is "a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person".
Potions and spells would create a perceived Love but not true love which is what you would ultimately desire. I agree that there are ways, physically and chemically to make yourself more attractive to people but forcing someone to have a certain emotional response towards you is not true love in my opinion.

Here are my thoughts on love spells as requested by a fellow hubber:
B.C. BOUTIQUE says
If done correctly by a person with the proper knowledge og what essences, oils, herbs, etc.to use and how to use them properly, yes..they really do work.I am a Wiccan and know of many who have the knowledge that you desire/need.
Silver Poet says
Absolutely not! If they did, though, it would be humorous to pair unlikely people just to see what happened.

Ripsnorta says
Depends on what you mean by love potions or spells.
If you're talking about something to make or force someone to fall in love, well no that can't work simply because love is given freely. It cannot be forced. A spell or potion that forces love is really only forcing slavery. That's not love, nor does it have anything to do with love.
If you mean something to enhance mood like an aphrodisiac, well sure, there are plenty of aphrodisiacs around, both natural and man made. Perhaps that little blue (or is it red?) pill could be regarded as a modern kind of love potion.

Sometimes.
The best kind of "love spell" is one you perform on yourself... to help you rise above your insecurities and LET someone love you.
The thing about magic is... it's not the blend of herbs and oils you throw together, or the crystals or the bonfires or the cauldrons and apples and broomsticks... it's about believing. If you honestly BELIEVE in the magic you're doing, it can't NOT work. Something comes of everything you do. that's just the nature of the universe.
If you're trying to force someone who has no interest in you at all to fall in love with you using a magic spell... it will never turn out the way you want or expect... because you can't CONTROL other people. The only person who's life you have any honest influence over whatsoever is your own.
Anne Aziere Garst says
Probably not but then would you want them to? Wouldn't you rather have someone love you for you, and not because of some spell or potion?
craftyfox says
The whole point behind a spell is that it creates the mind set for you to either do or see what you want. By casting a love spell, and by undergoing the actions of concentrating on your desire and lighting a candle etc you are anchoring the determination to achieve love. It may be that you have it in front of you all along, or would not have been in the frame of mind to notice the opportunity if you didn't do the spell!
I am a 'witch' but belive that the phsychology behind spell work is just as important (if maybe the whole explanation!?) as the energies of the earth that we draw on.

You can make your own Love Potions from essential oil blends, using Aromatherapy, it has been used for centuries. You can use it to enhance your love life and set the mood. See my hub for more details:

I once made up my own love spell. I concentrated really hard on it which is the key, but ten years later after we have been apart all this time he is still in love with me. He goes around telling people he's waiting for me to come back home. You gotta be careful what you wish for. I'm not sure I could concentrate hard enough to remove the spell the same way I cast it because to be honest it's flattering that he's still feeling this way about me. Selfish yes, but the whole time we were together he treated me badly. That's why I cast the spell in the first place. I loved him and I wanted to be loved back and it just so happened I cast it just before he dumped me...then it kicked in.. so I figure he still deserves to pay for it...I'm such a terrible person I know.

A person's mind can play a lot of tricks. I feel genuine symetry is real between opposite sexes. But it takes time to really get to know and appreciate real friendship first. You don't need a love or a potion is my belief.
itcoll says
no way.they will never ever work. But why are they really needed when there are so many natural ways?
mymagicview says
What a co-incidence! I am working over it. Today is my first day. I will bookmark this and tell you later on about my experience by writing one detailed hub over love spells. For the moment I believe from my heart and logic that love spell works. Please pray for me. That what I need the most!

sierrawilliams says
i like magic does not come from love. magic just comes from when u believe and love just comes from the heart and soul

I don't know about "potions" or "spells" but there are certainly some powerful natural aphrodisiacs out there. Not that these will actually cause "love" but they are certainly useful for lust.
