Why aren't cold sores called Herpes? They are caused by the Herpes Virus 1 which according to doctor

"Cold sores" is not a "bad" word. "Herpes" IS a "bad" word. Distinguishing the terms is just another effect of prudishness.

BTW, nowadays you can have both types at both locations. Bwah-ha-ha-ha.

herpes viruses are very common. typically cold sores are caused by herpes simplex 1 and genital sores herpes simplex 2 but this is not exclusive.

herpes simplex. It is causes by the same virus. I think doctors don't tell their patient because everyone would freak out!

I'm not sure but I guess it's the same reason why chicken pox are not called herpes allthough they are caused by the herpes varicella zoster virus which is also known to be the cause of shingles (herpes zoster).
