The most important thing is to be on the same page with your spouse about finances. This means writing a budget together, communicating how and when the bills are paid, and discussing things before making any major purchases. Accountability towards one another financially is probably the most important factor in keeping your relationship stable (well, besides fidelity, of course). My husband and I became debt and mortgage free by following the advice of financial guru, Dave Ramsey. You can read our story in my hub on the subject, "How we became debt and mortgage free."

To live frugal as a couple is a smart way to save money for the both of you. When shopping for groceries, clothes, etc. go to the clearance rack or non brand cereal. Doing so, will help your wallet stay full. Also, when shopping really think of what you really need not just what you want at the time. Keep a budget for your monthly bills.

Frugal living is one way to get out of debt. For the two of you to go on a vacation or just spend a day at the spa. Literally, I have from experience saved more so I can go out and enjoy things that me and my other half want to do.
