Aside from the possibly nasty or misogynistic connotations that the word “slut” derives, can't we all dress in a way that makes us feel good about ourselves without having your prejudice forced upon us?

I personally believe people, not just women, dress mainly for their own self esteem. How you perceive that says more about your disposition than it does about your target.

It boils down to a person's self-responsible ability to dress themselves according to a moral set of standards.

If what you consider "slutty", might not be considered the same by other people.

Your own individual moral standard for how you live your life, is directly related to whether or not you approve how someone else dresses.

If you form a judgement by calling an individual a "slut", then what are you saying to the rest of the world about yourself?

Slut: the word itself is an adjective, best to describe, either man or woman, and shouldn't be casted upon those. By you passing along your negative aspect(judgement) you greatly affect those around, because they might not agree with you.

So, regardless of what you're opinion is....NEVER make it common knowledge or public spoken, unless you're prepared to be judged for your own actions.

That 'S' word is quite a nasty word to call a woman. She may think she looks very pretty. Fashion trends change over the years and what fashion appeals to one woman may not appeal to another, it's also different between countries and age groups, for example a young girl on a night out on the town could get away with wearing a bra and mini-skirt in some places, and blend in quite well with what everyone else is wearing. It depends on the womans clothing tastes, and it's a personal choice.

It all depends on the individuals perception of what constitutes dressing like a slut. If you mean wearing short skirts and killer heels, then it all depends on whether you have the body for it or not.

I have to say that most girls I know do not wish to dress like sluts and would be horrrified if they thought that that was the impression they were giving people. They just want to dress sexily as most teenagers are fed on a diet of media images of very sexy celebrities. On someone who is ungroomed and out of shape a mini skirt can look cheap and maybe therefore give the whole outfit a slutty edge, whereas on a perfectly presented celeb the same outfit would look classically sexy.

So I suppose I am arguing that it's not the clothes that make the slut, its the body within the clothes.

Some Women are exhibitionists and they love people looking at them through their dress. They love when someone pases comments over them. They are not actually sluts. This a habit for them only/ But , sometimes it can prove dangerous , how people around them act. Situations that lead to raping are because of the exposure of body by the women.

I personally don't think that they realize that they are dressing that way. I think they believe that they are wearing what is in fashion and what will make them attractive. They may not of had the right guidance growing up. Otherwise, they know they are dressing that way and want to dress that way.

The definition of a slut varies with the borderlines being determined by social circles, non-congruent railroad tracks, daddy issues, trailerparks, alcohol, college campus life or the lack there of, religion, your perfume of choice, the way you hold your head or your fork, education levels, britney vs. christina, etc... because what environment you've been in effects a lot in your personal choices. This question has been answered over again in film and literature for ages. Some strong examples that humanize it well: S. E. Hinton's THE Outsiders with the socs and greasers, the obvious Pretty Woman with the pretty hooker who cleans up well with money, and the classic My Fair Lady. Seemingly, Dior changes everything.

I use to be a cocktail waitress at a major casino in new jersey and loved to dress sluty...i also believed that my clothes did not describe the person I was...looking back I have come to realize I was looking for attention from anyone/anyway I could get it. I am now a professional business woman and wear a suit everyday...they make me feel pretty in a very classy way. I still get the attention but in a much better way.

in my opinion the main reason is because when they dress like "sluts" lots of men that go for women like that give them lots of attention. Then the female thinks the only way she can get a lot of male attention is to dress that way.

Well not all women dress like sluts. I myself do dress, I guess you would say sluty but if you are confident in your own body and know that you are not a slut (which I'm not) then I think that it's ok. As long you don't go to a business meeting naked or something like that

I think it can also be cultural..for example compare Latin women and American women on television shows...the women on some Latin channels could be passed off as soft porn while American women are much less exposed and less revealing. Just an example. The eye of the beholder evaluates if they are slutty or not...it would be interesting to hear exactly what the male thoughts are when he looks....

They think that all attention is good attention. They may think that is the way to make them feel pretty, but others are thinking "Gosh!!! What was she thinking" Unfortunately for them they only attract the thought of sex. Fortunately for women that dress with class we know you can still be classy with sex appeal.

I believe that a person dresses as they want to be perceived. I also believe that perhaps your idea of a slut may not be the next person's idea of a slut. I think the way one dresses is situational upon the environment and occasion. For myself, there is a time and place for everything. Just as a caveat, some women, regardless of what they wear exhude sexuality and depending on how a woman is built, whatever she wears may seem to be a bit flirty.

Firstly it depends on your own definition of a slut. You must also take into account your own personal dress code etc. Just because a lady chooses to dress & reveal a little more skin than you, does not make her a slut. It may also be due to the culture of either the country and/or the time of day.

As an example of this, a 18-25 year old female in a nightclub area of your average large city in the wesern world, would probably not be viewed as a slut by her peers that are probably dressed in a similar manner.

The same female dressed in the same manner in somewhere like Dubai, would probably be arrested.

In the average woman I believe that they simply think that they are dressing to be with the fasion, & usually think that they look great.

I also know that some women also regard them as sluts, but I wonder if they are being prudes, or are they just jelouse.

Food for thought.

They dress like sluts either because they are sluts, or want to be perceived as sluts.

General notes:

If you have a fat gut, you do NOT look sexy with it hanging out below a short shirt or "top" (whatever you call them).

If you have to ask, "Does my butt look big in this?", your butt probably is big.
