Herbal remedies come from plants and nature. They are organic. Over the counter drugs are artificially produced in the laboratory and are chemical based.
Over the counter drugs may be harmful to the body and may cause unwanted side effects. For example, Tylenol causes liver damage. Consult the Physician's Reference Desk for side effects of drugs.
Herbal remedies, on the other hand, have no side effects. However, yu must know what herbs yu are taking and what the effects of them are. Do not take herbal remedies along with over the counter drugs.
