Okay, I'll be contrary enough to say that only 1 Great Political Book is necessary for everyone to read, as it encompasses so many others; that would be George Orwell's 1984. I have clicked through the book mentally for many years as I watch events unfold and find it uncanny that with Orwell's guidance, anyone can almost predict where things will go next in the "real" world.
