I have a male cat that is afraid of his own shadow, hides from strangers and is very needy.
The real problem is that he constantly needs attention to the point of invading my lap even when I am busy or have the laptop on my lap! I wouldn't mind if he just wanted to be petted, but he always has to be on me! Has this ever happened to anyone else, and how do I stop it besides yelling at him. If I yell, or refuse him for long enough, he pees on my bed!!!

I have 4 male indoor cats. And they are all skittish with strangers. At the slight sound of a spoon dropping, or me crumping a plastic bag or one of them hitting a ball they all scamper for higher grounds or hide somewhere. Yelling won't work with my "boys" either. They always crowd me when I try to do something or sleeping. No matter how much I ignore them they always win. Petting is not enough when they want to be held or cuddled. When they are satisfied they will let me be.

they are just like children, and they need physical contact...the great thing about cats is that they are MUCH less needy then dogs...like Flordeliz says, give them attention and they will leave you alone when they have had their fill
