Dry skin is the result of having a low skin pH level...the natural skins pH level is anywhere between 4.5 and 6. So if you have dry skin you will have a pH level in your skin of lower than 4.5
I agree that avoiding excessively long hot showers will help prevent dry skin.
Additionally I would recommend using a moisturizing cream that has a pH level in the upper range of the natural pH skin range (so a moisturizer with a pH level from 5.5 and above).
