AdSense has got to be the best option if you're just starting out trying to make a living online. The reason is that it adapts to your content so you can still earn something while your learning what works best for you.
The highest earners are of course sex and gambling if you don't mind where the money comes from and have sufficient skills to make an impact in these highly competetive markets.
