The Pros very easy to list. These creatures are simply stunning, entertaining, playful, loving. Most of all they are devoted! ! Seriously my B & G Macaw is more defensive of me than my boxer- dog. Phoenix will make it absolutely clear you are too close to me.
The Cons are as equally clear. Cockatoos can be extremely messy, not to say other breeds can't be. All these birds need daily cleaning. Destructive! ! You bet while this can be lessened by providing many different and expensive toys to be destroyed, if the opportunity comes they have no problem trimming the door, all the molding, curtain rods, etc. They can chew through anything in a blink of an eye. To a bird it is nothing but plain curiosity to see what's inside or under this......
Toilet training! Now there is a subject I get asked about a lot. You can buy a diaper for them but too many birds will not wear them. So you can imagine where that mess goes. That is why they made napkins and washing machines. I figure if you can't take the mess then this is not the right creature for you.
Housing is another subject this is expensive and takes a lot of space in your home depending on the size of the bird.
We have not even coved feeding or health care.
