The best plants to grow for first time gardeners are easy to care for plants that are happy in sun or part shade.

If you are starting a garden from scratch... look around at gardens to get an idea of what type of garden you would like to have. Look at what type of plants do well and thrive in your neighbours gardens as the soil will probably similar to that in your own garden.

But most importantly grow plants that you find attractive and love to grow; ones that make you feel happy when you see them. If they will not grow in the type of soil you have in your garden then it may be possible to grow them in flower pots with a purchased compost that suits them.
