Why is it that when you yawn your eyes tear up?
I often wondered what yawning and tearing eyes have in common. It doesn't make sense. With your mouth wide open, you breath in deeply, filling your lungs with air and then exhale............why would your eyes tear up........

nice question....
It is because of the squeezing of lacrimal glands. The act of yawning uses those facial muscles which are related to lacrimal gland(tear secreting glands).
Also, have you noticed you get running nose too!!... i mean you tend to have nasal secretion too, thats because, this excess tear go down to nose through a channel called Naso-lacrimal duct.
Hope this helps.
Aj.
