What are some of easy/hard ways one can work from home (using computer and phone) and make good enough money and yet run a family ? Some(4-8hours a week) Local Travel is fine.

If you can cook or clean you're set, but that'll keep you on a home-brew (forget real beer) budget. If you can tutor you'll maybe cover the groceries. If you can give dance lessons you'll end up with some great music as a tax write off and a bunch of hilarious stories for dinner parties. But if you can write, plug away. Take freebie jobs on the side that get you published and give you something you can show people. It's all about track record and each job can build on the last. Besides earning money you'll learn new things with each client.
Think wider than just writing articles. Besides editing and ghost writing, I work as an online business manager for a client who lives in New Zealand. That job appeared after I edited her book a couple of years ago and she liked the pace at which I could turn jobs around. It's great regular income for in between the faster pace of editing manuscripts to deadline.
