If you're going to hike into the canyon - definitely look into one of the guide services. I used Four Season Guides (fsguides.com) and they made the most of our trip!

I'm still strying to figure this whole site out; and not doing a very good job of that. I posted 2 hubs last night/this morning (depending on your time) and it wouldn't let me post the links to amazon.com for the books I wanted to post.
Also I forgot to mention pygmyguides in my hub. Its a group/organization that will take you on a rim-to-rim hiking tour.

Lots and lots of water. Hike during the hours the brochures recommend, and get up before dawn to get a sunrise picture like I did. If you are a flat-lander, you need to get into shape before you go, or take time to become acclimated to the altitude.
