Who is the most Talented Musician? example: Drums, Guitar, Base, Keyboards....

You can like a band because they Rock, or they're smooth...but it doesn't mean that the musicians are all that TALENTED....there are many musicians thru out modern music history (1930's till now?) that may not be on the top 40 list of bands but are top 10 of musicians....what's your thoughts?

Every instrument you mention can be played to a virtuoso standard. Tobol has answered this well but you can't mention bass players without mentioning Jaco Pastorius, so I couldn't resist chipping in.

It is down to taste and a very difficult question though my personal favourites are very varied...Drums: Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, John Bonham, John Mylett and Billy Cobham. Bass: Jack Bruce, Mark King, John Entwistle and Keith Mulholland. Guitar: Jimi Hendrix, Steve Vai, Steve Morris, Ritchie Blackmore, George Harrison and Bert Weedon. Vocalist john Lennon, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Ian Gillan, Billie Holiday, Gloria Estefan and Karen Carpenter. Keyboards: Jon Lord, Jools Holland, Kenny Newton and Jerry Lee Lewis.

Mr. Chapman has a point, I'd like to fine tune it a little by stating that you can't talk about bass players without mentioning Mr. Stanley Clarke. He did after all win Bass Guitar Magazine Best Bass Player of the Year for 10 consecutive years, forcing BGM to "retire" him from the competition since he had, in their words "made his point."

More generally I agree with Tobol that it's really a matter of taste. When it comes to vocals you have to talk Luther Vandross and Marvin Gaye or the discussion lacks credibility. You're right RP, Jaco was that "thang."
