Why won't Apple license their operating system to all PC makers?

Apple's computers now use the same techonology as all other manufacturers and allow you to dual boot Windows and OS-X. While I understand they are trying to increase sales, I personally think they'd get more sales if they made OS-X available to all manufacturers. I for one would load it onto my PC - at once I'd used it, I'd probably consider buying an Apple as my next PC.

They would absolutley sell more copies of OS X, at the expense of system sales. Granted Apple makes most of their money from iPods and iTunes these days, but their market share would tank if they licensed their OS to PC manufacturers.

Besides, that is one of the benefits of buying a Mac in the first place. The hardware and software are all developed by the same company. Granted the processors are now Intel, but they weren't making their own processors before either, they used to get those from Motorola. By engineering the hardware and software together as one package leaves a lot less room for errors.

Besides, if you want to run OS X on your pc, just do a search for "os x on pc". there are plenty of guides out there to help (then you can write a hub about it).
