Try Animal Crossing. My 8 year-old granddaughter has been playing it since she was 4 years old.. and I believe it actually helped her to learn how to read, as she has excelled in reading since beginning kindergarten. However, I need to ad that YES, we did help her a bit when she first started the game.. but after a few weeks, she knew EXACTLY what she was doing.. She still plays, and continues to enjoy the game.

Many of the games are designed so that you will understand more if you can read, but can still understand and learn how to play if you can't.
Try Mario. I personally don't like it, but I've seen kids as young as 3 handle the game.
