What makes World of Warcraft, and games like it, so appealing to adults?

i play world of warcraft, first of all, i like it because i can immerse myself into a world so unlike our own, it's kind of like being in charge of your own cartoon, along with the adventures you can make friends on these type of games and have lots of fun too.
