For all you fishing fans, why is fishing line called cat gut?????????
I am puzzled why fishing line is called cat gut.

It comes from "kitgut," which is a German word for a small fiddle. The fiddle strings were apparently similar enough to fishing line, snowshoe and tennis netting to lend them the term. How'd 'kit' become 'cat', you wonder? One of those random linguistic mutations or because of the term 'kitty'. Sadly, nothing to do with cats.
