there are a few really good, affordable and effective ways of building a solar array at home, but if you are serious about producing your own electricity then you need to diversify your methods, like adding wind turbines (and others), remember, the sun doesn't shine all the time and neither does the wind blow all the time, so look at a few different ways to generate power, and do what suits you and your budget and needs, a good start point is this site
