How early do you start and how late do you still give out candy on Halloween?
Since it is a Saturday this year, I just wondered what was the typical start time and end time for most people.

generally 5:30 - 9:30 M That is the recommended time in our little town and most of us turn off our porch lights at 9:30pm

Since it falls on a Saturday this year, I'm figuring that the kids in my neighborhood will probably be starting after lunch around 1:00pm. That's the earliest I'll take my kids out. The latest I will (or have) kept them out is 9:00pm - no later. I don't hand candy out after 9:00pm unless it happens to be an unusually warm night and there are still a bunch of them out later than they normally would be. Most of the younger kids are in by that time already.
I'm already dreading those "early birds" that may start earlier. Just hoping they don't come too early - Saturday is the only day I get to sleep late :-)
Hope this answer helps - Happy Halloween!

Since our town announces the day and time for trick-or-treating every year, it's out of my hands. It'll be on Saturday from 6 pm to 8 pm. They sound the fire whistle at the beginning and the end. I usually only get kids here until about 7 pm (not too many kids in this neighborhood).

I have it ready by 5:00 so the small "tigers" get their share and usually turn off the light when the last light goes out on my street (which is usually around 10:00 or so). With Saturday being the big day, I anticipate a lot of late comers. I'm also concerned about vandalism but I generally leave my drapes open after I turn out the light and just work on my computer so I can hear any nonsence. I love Halloween! It's one of the few vestiges left of "community building".

I live in a very big neighborhood with a lot of kids, especially elementary school aged. They generally trick-or-treat earlier and in groups. I have candy ready all day, but I expect trick-or-treaters as early as 5 or 6. There are a lot of older kids in the surrounding areas who like to hit every neighborhood they can, so I get trick-or-treaters till as late as 10 or 11. I turn off my light at 11 or whenever I run out of candy; whichever one comes first.
Some people say it's too much that I give out candy that long, but I just love Halloween!
