Which Legendary or Mythological Creature would you like to be and why?

Phoenix!
Because it satisfies two long standing human dreams:
1.) It lives for a very long time. [That's the returning from ashes thing]; 2.) It can fly. [How cool is that!] I really do not care about the fire thing; but even as a mythological creature, you can't have everything you want.

Definitely Pegasus. Not only would I have the grace, strength and beauty of a powerful steed, but then add the ability to fly! Marvelous.
