Not in childhood, but yes. In Transcendental Meditation (TM) it is common. They call in Yogic Flying I think. Whilst meditating in the lotus position (ie feet folded over upper legs) you can move off the ground (without using arms or legs) and move forward. This is not perhaps what you were looking for as an answer, but to my mind, anyone who can lift their body off the ground even momentarily, without using arms or legs is levitating. There are videos on YouTube about this.

Well, there was this one time when I jumped off the roof of our house. My dad yelled so hard I was lifted up a few inches!
