While in the Philippines ... I tried to hail a cab. The driver of this one cab saw me, held out his outreached hand, palm down while fanning his fingers in and out of his palm. To me, this meant go away. But I later learned that in the Philippines, the gesture meant, "come here" or "come to me" or "come on".
