Because people have been blinded by the Christian religion and lead to believe that Christmas (December 25) was the birthdate of Jesus Christ.
Any person with the sense to actually do the research will realize that December 25th was not the birthday of Jesus Christ, but the 'dob' of a number of pagan sun gods.

Most of the time its peer preasure, and TV marketing. I hate Xmas, because the mind gets stupid.
But It wont have any effect on believers, because they are in Christ, and have been set free of the bodage of worldly festivals.
