The number 1 software is also FREE! Check out Avast. It's free for personal use, and I have been using it for years now on ALL my computer systems.

It automatically updates frequently, and I have not had 1 virus since I started using it!

I prefer Norton Internet Security - It runs on Windows, comes in 1 PC, 3 PC, 5 PC or 10 PC licensed copies and has adware, spyware and virus protection, a firewall and email spam filter. This software requires an annual subscription but is worth the price.

Everyone has opinions on this. I use AVG, and haven't noticed anything wrong with it. I have also heard nothing but good things about Avast, but might can look into nod32. I haven't heard of that one.

Any antivirus will work well when it is updated regularly. I found Norton antivirus the best.

i recommend you to use nod32...AVG is quite popular just because its free but it's not effective...i got nod32 from a torrent and its working great and it detects virus even before u open your pendrive and deletes it automatically...and its very lite and it wont slow down your system..

I like Kaspersky Labs for the good price, configuration ability and the fact they update their signatures every few hours. No other scanner company does that I am aware of. The top rated scanners are not that far apart in ability to detect malware. Some act differently on different machine configurations. On my present PC Norton is just a boat anchor, but on other PCs it did not do as badly. Consumers tend to go for the easier plug and play scanners with pretty icons, so they write glowing reviews and dislike the apps that require some configuration. I do lots of experimenting with hack tools and my job has me going onto iffy sites sometimes, so a good scanner is a must. Kaspersky found stuff no other ever had. It even shook the warning box when I ignored what I knew was a non-threat from a buddy's site. I run a few, but none at the same time. That's a no no.
