What does it really mean to abide in Christ?

As Christians, we believe that Jesus actually lives in us by his Holy Spirit. How do we, remain, abide, yield and surrender to him day to day and moment by moment. How do we remain aware of His presence in the midst?

I am tolerant of others and therefore I feel I am likeminded and in sync with God's expectations of me as a Christian.

Joel233 says

To abide IN Christ is to have the mind of Christ. (The anointed mind) "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus

and the Spirit will raise you up" It is also true about not seeing GOOD or evil but accepting that God has a purpose for all things

Philippians 2

1If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,

2Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

3Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

4Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

5Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

6Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

7But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

8And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

We abide in him and remain with Jesus by reading our Bibles daily and spending time in prayer with him. We essentially treat him as though we can see him face to face. If our earthly father were standing in front of us and we truly loved him, we would display that love toward him through hugs, telling him we loved him and doing what he ask us to do. The same is true of our heavenly father. We need to spend time in our Bibles daily learning about him and seeking out his will for our lives. We need to spend time in prayer first thanking him for what he has given us and for taking care of us and then praying for others and then telling him what is on our minds and asking for his guidance in our lives The more we spend time with him in these ways the more prevalent he becomes to us in our daily lives. That still small voice inside us is the presence of Jesus or the Holy Spiris in our lives. We must learn to listen to that voice and heed what it is telling us to do. We have to train our heart to listen and trust what the Holy Spirit is telling us. The more we trust him the more he will deal in our lives and the closer we are drawn to him, thus that close bond is deepened.

To live as He lives, to do as He wants us to. One can pray regularily, when walking, working, before bed, in the shower, anywhere, and this will help one to abide in Him daily, and from minute to minute. When one gets an un-Godly thought or says and un-Godly thing rebuke it, tell it to go away in "Jesus Name" and ask for forgiveness, this will help to keep a pure mind, a Christ-like mind. Thus allowing you to remain pure in Him. Abide in Him. It will become a regular thing, a natural thing. Before you know it, you will live as He lives in you.

I stop and notice where my mind is. Where am I placing my attention? What am I valuing? Am I stressing out for fear that I do not have enough? That is not Abiding in Christ. I redirect my attention to peace and take a few moments to be still and remember that I am sustained by God, not by my own efforts. I take time throughout the day to invite Christ and the Holy Spirit to enter and to remind me of what my purpose is throughout the day.

Well,.......You have hit on one of the most important aspects of Christianity! I am not a scholar nor have any biblical college. I do, on the other hand, have a deep seated belief in Jesus.

Now, this has been an issue for me for a long time....how do I live the life Christ wants me to live? The abiding comes when we are so surrendered that the obvious choice for what to do IS His will. I once thought about how could I do the right thing and not react all the time. To react is different than responding, right?1? To respond takes some thinking about what I'm going to do. This would demand a choice must take place in the daily mode of events. I have spent much time in the book of James. James 1:19,20 tells us be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.

My Dear Sweet Friends,

To abide in Christ is the continual effort to enter into union with the Father, and once done to remain therein as much as possible. This effort involve both coming into the presence of God and communing with Him as well.

Pretty much the same as Seyiari, but without the like and hate. To abide in Christ involveth neither of those, for one who abide therewith shall become neutral to-ward those things which some seest as good and evil. This is because in Christ there is no good and evil, there is only Good, and that is God. For when God created all creation He looked upon it and declared: It is very good! It was very good because God put Himself in all of His creation. Thus, God is Good, and all creation is, likewise good.

When good and evil is recognized, then one no longer abide in Christ, for one then seest dualities, recognize dualities, givest power unto dualities, which, in essence is the act of eating from the "Tree of Good and Evil", instead of the act of eating from the "Tree of Life".

Those who deny, or refuse to recognize dualites, thereby only recognizing Good, or God as One, and not two, eatest of the Tree of life, and as Jesus said, when this is done one is opening up the door for himself and God to come in and abide with that one.

We apologize for such length of words.
