For me, there's no relief for labor pain. It's a natural thing for a mother undergoing pain before giving birth.

I'm not going to hub on it, but having had no medications with my second child, what worked best was walking.

I also got distratced by talking wih a 92 year old woman who was also in the hospital as I walked the halls, and she told me the story of how all 6 of her children had been born in our small town.

So a distraction does help.

A few women can pop them out like poop. Most birth with varying degrees of labor duration and pain. Others would die unless the fetus is extracted via Caesarean section. (So much for the religious wackos' notion of "intelligent design".)

There is a delicate evolutionary balance between the width of the pelvic opening and the size of a fetus' head. Over the centuries, artificial birthing techniques have contributed to an increasing number of mothers and infants surviving, that would have otherwise died in childbirth. What was once undoubtedly an only occasional occurrence is now commonplace, as an otherwise genetically nonviable characteristic is now passed down through the generations in increasing numbers.

Any woman that has required "heroic" intervention, including Caesarean delivery, is TOTALLY SELFISH if she goes ahead and has more children. By doing so, she is passing down to her children and future generations a legacy of pain and dysfunction.

For me- my pain relief was knowing it will end and I get a baby and become a mommy! What better drug out there gives you that!

Hang in there ladies, you can do it...push through it, let it go and the hard part will pass.

Dear Eldritch,

The link below will provide you with a pain management option for labor that may help so much that you won't need an epidural.
