Is being bilingual a must in today's society? If I were to teach my daughter another language which should it be (I live in the US)?

To be bilingual is not mandated, but it is certainly an asset. Spanish would seem to be the most useful second language to have in the United States at this time. On the other hand, since so many people speak Spanish you might find your bilingual skills to be more marketable if you were to speak a second language that is not as well known because there would be less competition. Learning another language, whatever the language, opens up the possibilities for increased communication with other people. Language shouldn't be a barrier, but rather a vehicle for improved communication with others.
