What's a good home-based tool for adding a reasonably cool-sounding rap beat to a .wav file? All I have are a microphone and Skype and Sound Recorder for tools at the moment.

If you got windows "Adobe Audition" "Cubase" & "Acid Pro" should be good software. The programs you want are multi-track software programs, the industry standard is Protools, which is compatible only on digidesign and m-audio hardware.
