This is something most people would likely miss. My home town of Wilkes-Barre, PA has the second largest statue of Christ the King in the world. The largest sits on top of the mountain looking over Rio De Janeiro. It sits on a King's College building close to the Market Street Bridge.

When my wife and I moved to Pittsburgh some years ago I recall the most striking weekend trips we took. One was to Uniontown PA to the area where George Washington had built Ft. Necessity. It was a sunny fall day and I never had seen the colors of fall like I saw in the mountains there. Also, Sumerset PA, a skiing haven is very beautiful, year round.

I was born in Harrisburg and all I can say is no Hubber has done your question justice, so...allow me, my friend:

1. Hershey! Go to Hershey Park http://www.hersheypark.com/

2. Williamsport! The Little League Museum http://www.littleleague.org/Learn_More/museum/hall and just down the street from there hit Clyde Peeling's Reptilan http://www.reptiland.com/

3. Valley Forge http://www.valleyforge.org/

4. Gettysburg http://www.nps.gov/gett/

5. Lancaster - be sure to try ring bologna and shoo fly pie http://www.800padutch.com/

6. Harrisburg http://www.visithhc.com/harrisburgpa.shtml

7. Philadelphia - hit the zoo and the Penn Museum it's amazing http://www.penn.museum/long-term-exhibits.html - but not a big fan of the Phillies etc...so cannot recommend sports, but a show at the Wachovia Center (when I was a kid it was the Spectrum) is always cool http://www.wachoviacenter.com/

8. Pocono Mountains...as a former relish girl at Skytop Lodge, I can recommend the Poconos and Skytop as a lovely getaway. Fun for the whole family...ahhh, my youth in the mountains! As far as the cabins where the help live? Let me just say "Dirty Dancing" had nothing on us! Woo hoo! http://www.skytop.com/

9. Bucks County, a hidden treasure of national history and bonus if you have kids: Sesame Place is there! http://www.buckscounty.org/visitors/index.aspx

10. If you love fishing as much as I do and have a passion for trout, Clearfield County in cool weather is a great off-season vacation idea. http://www.pagameandfish.com/fishing/trout-fishing
