Are gift cards acceptable holiday gifts?

I love to receive gift cards! I think it is a nice thought if someone gets you one. If you are like me and too busy (young children, work, career) to shop around for a friend, it is a nice gesture to even send one in the mail. It is the thought that counts and family members have also sent me gift cards through my e-mail address from Amazon.com. One of my favorite gift cards that my sister sends me is from Starbucks!! Everytime I stop to get something there, I think of her while I enjoy one of my favorite lattes.

Gifts should be personal. If the person likes golf then try to get a gift card related to golf - this displays that you have thought about the person in question.

That said, my family always has a hard time figuring out what to give each other. It's to the point where I just give my mother her gifts with a receipt attached so she can take it back. Which she does most of the time. It seems crass but it would make my life a lot easier if I could just give her cash.

I'd take the suggestion of an Amazon or iTunes gift card a step further and make it a Visa or Amex gift card. This will work just like cash but doesn't seem as crass.

Of course they are, and the more the merrier if you know what I mean. I don't think everyone on you list should get a gift card.

Actually I wish I got more gift card for gifts.

That way someone can get exactly what they want or need.

You can always present them in clever ways.

Use them as stocking stuffers.
