How to get in the Christmas Spirit

It's kinda cheesy, but listening to Christmas carols really gets me in the Christmas spirit.

I would love to share some of my thoughts about this subject.

I have found that when you go into the stores at christmas to look around or to do your shopping, if you are not feeling to much like you are in the Spirit of Christmas, just hearing the Carols playing can give you such a lift,you just want to join in and sing along with them.

I think too, at christmas we have to remember those less fortunate than ourselves. We may think that we are in a bad situation, but the way our economy is these days there are so many people and families doing it a lot tougher than ourselves, even ones that are too embarrassed to tell anyone about themselves. Giving them hampers at Christmas time through the Church has given me a boost to my Christmas Spirit when I have been feeling so low ,when I couldn't even bring myself to write a Christmas Card. To see their faces light up when they see their Christmas Hampers was so uplifting that you couldn't help yourself get back that Christmas Spirit.

When I worked at the Children's Hospital, every year at Christmas I would take my guitar into the ward and play Christmas Songs, some of them requested by the kids themselves. Even if I wasn't in the Christmas Spirit mood, I would still turn up, because just to see these little kids being so brave even though they were so sick, gave me such a lift to my Christmas Spirit. I would sit there for several hours because I would be having such a great time with them that I forgot what time it was. Time just didn't seem to matter to me, the kids were what mattered, it was there time not mine.

I also sang at the Retirement Villages for the older folk. seeing a smile break on their faces when they heard an old familir carol or Christmas song like "White Christmas" "Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas" would fill me with such a wonderful feeling that I would just want to embrace each and everyone of them and say "Have a Lovely Christmas" , and that was all it would take to put that feeling right back there again. Well, these things have done wonders for me at Christmas Time, and I still listen to the music in the stores and get that feeling a Christmas, even when I don't need to. BB
