I met a man who every year bought his wife a live Christmas Tree still planted in the pot. When Christmas was over he took it outside and planted it in the ground. Not sure if he waited to plant it or did it right away? But he showed us the last 5 trees he bought. There were a couple of Blue Spruce Tree's, boy those were pretty. I know there are certain rules of thumb to go by, keeping a live tree in the house, not sure what they are.

If you have an artificial one you can just return it to the spot you took it from before putting it up. Much easier then having to worry about the mess and disposal of the tree.
