Gas prices in 2009 and 2009 are triggered by speculation not politics.
Your 401 k companies invest your money in hedge funds. Those hedge funds buy oil when the dollar drops in value to world currencies.
The price of gas is what determines the world economy. The recession/depression hit when people put money in the gas tank and couldn't afford the increase in housing costs brought on by interest rates rising.

Well Big OIL raises their prices every summer regardless who is in office but I agree with you regarding the Bushwhackers. Big OIL knows that a Bush won't do what Jimmy Carter did; put a windfall profit tax on them thus under Bush all corporate executives had free reign on scamming the average taxpayer.
