When they are no longer able to record and perform and when they have had enough of the music business. Most carry on though writing and performing and with no complaints about the quality of their work from critics or fans.

The Rolling Stones have shown that they can still deliver the goods and Leonard Cohen is still touring at the age of 74. Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen are two veterans who delighted the crowds at the recent Glastonbury Festival. Status Quo are another aging rock band still "rockin' all over the world."

I think the public forces them into retirement more often then they decide to retire themselves. I think the more talented you are, the less likely that you will want to or find yourself forced into retirement. But if you are in it to be famous or make money, well...know that you could have an expiration date.

I think the idea that rock is a kids' game is a farce. I'm way angrier at 35 than I was at 18!
