Paris. Venice. Rome. Florence. Maldives. Do these places for a supposed-to-be ideal romantic escapade only sound too cliché-studded and plainly mainstream? - Exactly.

For a fact, we are all aware that love does not really get old throughout the year. But its intensity is surely being brought up a notch, and is very much emphasized at some stage within its second month - especially on the 14th. Romance will be in the air (yet again) come February, and spending this lovely time with someone special simply appears to be quintessential.

Sure enough, though it is yet a number of months until next Valentine’s Day, couples are just tirelessly fussing about the probable things they can do every free time they can get a hold of. And since this is an international love vibe we are talking about, which is certainly meant for duos lovingly paired up by Cupid, it can be quite stressful to be able to unearth the most enchanting spot you can find for your significant other. Also, one can not always take a trip to coined romantic cities year in, year out, solely because one was led to believe that those places are the cream of the crop, can they? Well, what if we tell you that after all this time that you have been overly pleased with the typical crème de la crème, there is still that overlooked cherry on top? (And let us not forget about the sprinkles) Believe it or not, that regular list of illustrious locations may be outshined by some islands most of us have barely even heard of.

This world of ours can only reveal so much at a time that even the most exquisite of sceneries are often left unnoticed. Nonetheless, be enlightened as we are to turn the table and focus the spotlight to five of these magnificent settings that has been well veiled to the mass.

Without further ado, here are (in my opinion) five of the most awe-inspiring and breathtaking secret places to astonish a loved one any time of the year.

1. Manta Resort, Pemba Island – Tanzania

What tops my list of hidden treasures is this implausibly far-fetched vacation spot in the middle of the ocean. We usually hear lots of people say it is from the sound of the waves and sea breeze that they find serenity and peace. But what about waking up seeing clear blue water and be surrounded by swimming sea creatures to greet you and your love good morning? Now, that is unsurpassable peace in a class of its own. And who would even believe that such actually exists? It has a room below sea level where both can have breakfast while being overwhelmed by the vast Indian Ocean and its darlings. If both parties long for some tranquility and the ever desired privacy away from the stressful city, we present to you, ladies and gentlemen, Manta Resort in Pemba Island, Tanzania.

Trivia:

Pemba Island in Arabic is “The Green Island”. But nothing green in this part though. Just clear blue water and some.

2. Bambu Indah – Bali, Indonesia

One might say this place is majestic. Unfortunately, it is not. The word does not even come close to describing this spot once eyes are set upon it. Its intricate elegance for something inclined to the cultural side is totally peerless. Situated in Central Indonesia, Bali is already famous for the world-class beaches it offers. But see this, concealed somewhere within the heart of this country lies a better scenery. Bambu Indah in Ubud is calmly awaiting its guests to unravel the enchanting beauty it can offer.

The resort has 12 uniquely designed houses that are relevant to Indonesia’s rich culture, including a room with an aquarium as its floor. Each house possesses a distinctive façade so elegantly arresting, it may even lead you to a full 12-night stay just to enjoy a night at every dwelling.

Tip:

Indonesia has allowed 64 countries for a visa-upon-arrival eligibility. It is advised though to at least check first if passports both possess qualify to this ruling.

Next stop is not your everyday Italian scene. One can not simply say che figata or magnifico on this one. This is located in Matera which mainly lies in Mezzogiorno or Southern Italy. From the beds, fixtures, bathrooms and even the kitchenettes, everything is inimitable. This one of a kind creation of Daniele Kihlgren’s team of local architects and archeologists brought in new light to these stone caves. To interest you even more, this particular place in Italy was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site way back 1993 for its Stone Age feel, thanks to its well preserved cave dwellings.

A word of warning though, there are rooms without windows. So, if your partner has shown strong irrational fear at being enclosed in a sealed space at some point, you might as well skip this one. But cheer up! There are four more to choose from nonetheless.

Room rates start at a very reasonable EUR 150/Night. Yaba-dabba-doo!

4. Iglu Dorf in Engelberg, Titlis - Stwizerland

I believe nothing is too cold for two souls burning with desire for each other. So why not relive the spark for romance inside these specially designed igloos. Nothing to worry about if you are wondering how safe these ice caverns are, because they are restored and rebuilt annually. There are specially designed rooms suited for couples, too. The said rooms has walls sculpted for a more romantic feel and sheepskin rugs placed on the bed to keep guests warm. Cool enough? You would probably agree, but wait! There’s more! The deal does not end there. Iglu Dorf also has saunas and Jacuzzis, plus the good food and drinks served daily – hot and cold. Now, beat that!

Fact:

Elsa of Frozen does not have anything to do with this and neither does Jack Frost. Just make sure that the cold does not bother you both, anyway.

5. Chaa Creek – Belize

Lastly, be the modern Tarzan and Jane as you spend quality time up in the trees. This Lodge in Chaa Creek offers a number of villas and suites that may be fitting to a range of tastes which includes one treetop suite. We do not suggest you swing from tree to tree, of course. Surely, there are no threatening baboons and some wild beasts just in case you are wondering, too. But what this place offers is a setting that will make you feel closer to nature more than usual. It is recommended that you avail their tour packages, too, as it will be very much worth a try since this is renowned to be an award winning Belizean Rainforest eco lodge.

So, there you have it. Five of the most jaw-dropping potential places to be in for a little loving holiday. And, as for the final finishing touches, it is suggested that you pay attention to these three diminutive points before embarking on your most awaited romantic trip:

  • One, take out that passport.
  • Two, recharge that camera (and don’t forget the charger)
  • And three, just stay in love - as it is not advisable to be without someone to share one of these places. Particularly if you are planning for the best mini adventure yet!

And yes lovebirds, you are welcome.
