It's all been done before. Men have given their lady's flowers, chocolates, and jewelry, likewise with women giving their men universally known tokens of love. However, if you want to do something unique and different, how about giving your love the gift of luck instead?

Lucky bamboo is said to bring good luck and fortune especially if it's been given as a gift. Also, according to Ancient Chinese tradition, two stalks of lucky bamboo represent love. Now, lucky bamboo isn't actually bamboo. It does resemble bamboo, but it is actually a part of the Dracaena family. Lucky bamboo is an incredibly strong plant. What is mystifying about it is the fact that it requires so little to survive, but it survives with such strength and endurance.

What lucky bamboo represents coupled with the plant's history of surviving on so little and still maintaining such strength is a beautiful reminder of love. That's why giving a loved one a gift of luck isn't such a crazy idea. It's symbolic of the love you share.

1-2-3 Easy Step Process

STEP ONE: Cut open packaging of glass or stone beads

STEP TWO: Place glass or stone beads into the vase about halfway
STEP TWO: Place glass or stone beads into the vase about halfway
STEP THREE: Push lucky bamboo stalks gently into the vase then surround the stalks with more glass or stone beads until bamboo can stand upright by itself

Pretty Easy Right?

The setup is fairly easy. It was never supposed to be complicated. However, it is the presentation that you must personalize. It's actually fun to figure out what kind of stones or glass beads you'd like to place into the vase. You can also figure out what type of vase you'd like to place the bamboo stalks in.

I selected a square vase with red heart-shaped glass beads.

Where To Get Everything?

Amazingly, I found everything (lucky bamboo stalks, vase, and glass beads) in my local grocery store.

Good places to look for vases and glass beads:

  • Michaels
  • A.C. Moore

I was lucky to find lucky bamboo stalks at my grocery store. Depending on the time of year, your grocery store may have them. I would try your florist. Just call around or search the internet for a good place that you can purchase lucky bamboo stalks.

Glam It Up!

If you do happen to go to Michaels or A.C. Moore, these stores are known as art and craft stores. They have a great amount of supplies to make your entire setup pop out more. You can find a beautiful ribbon and adorn the vase with it. If you're really into art, you can get a kit the etches into glass to personalize the vase.

One Last Thing

When you're done with glamorizing, just make sure you fill the vase with some water!
