All That I Am
I’ve tried to give you all that I am
But how can I give what I don’t have?
I cannot give of what I am not
Of all that you wish me to be.
I wish I could be the person you see,
From behind your soft green eyes.
But all that I am is hidden beneath
This dark shroud that is my life.
Still, that’s not all that I am
Because I am not mine to give.
I’ve given it all away before,
Now it’s gone, no longer my own.
