Anam Cara, My Best Friend

Soul Friends

Me and My Anam Cara
Me and My Anam Cara

Happy Birthday Anam Cara!

My best friend’s birthday is today. We’ve been friends since we were five years old. Now that’s a long time, especially when you consider all the stupid fights girls can get into in grade school over stupid things, like boys. We always seemed to be on the same side of everything though. We were always in trouble together; and even now I can’t admit all the trouble we got into but we still laugh about it. We were also always there for each other through some really, really hard times; lost touch for a bunch of years and picked our friendship up again like it had been only days since we had seen each other. It took about a week of constant chatter, crying, laughing, and stories until we were all caught up again.

You know how in this life there seems to be one person who understands you no matter how much or how little you say? She is that person to me. One look in her eyes and I could tell you how she is feeling. We go through the same emotions even though we are miles apart. When we catch up with each other again, everything is explained and we know why we were feeling a certain way on a certain day. If I want to know how she is, I just look inside my heart. She does the same.

We lead two very different lives, you could say as different as night and day…but our moods and personalities just blend together to form a perfect space to call home. I know that I could tell her anything, and she would stand beside me as my greatest ally in life just because she loves me and needs no other reason except she knows that right or wrong, I would stand beside her unquestionably any time she needed me as well. That’s just the way it is.

We’ve shared dreams, disappointments, crises, exhilarations, holidays, homes, rites of passage, memories, families; secrets ….everything two friends could possibly share. And on a deeper note, we’ve questioned our spirituality, psychology, worth as women, strength, self-worth, and built each other back up when we needed to be reset. There is no other person in this world who knows me as well as she does. And no other person in this world I could trust to know me as well as she does.

This day, every year, I say a prayer to the goddess for her. I don’t know what my life would have been without her. She blesses me every single day of my life just knowing she is there.

The weather has been awful these past two weeks, and this year has been hard on me, so I’m giving her a hub page this year. Happy Birthday Baby!

You, with the gladiolus!

Come here, Smiley

I think I want to talk with you

About this long and glorious highway

From the blue skies of Colorado

The warm wind and the gorgeous mountains

Where we dreamed so many dreams

I loved those days with you.

Gandalf, shining Lady Wizard

Tall One from the Bavarian Alps

With a smile from ear to ear

Lady Gretna of the Artistic Ones

You have many names

Goddess of Grammar

And Lady Sonic; Are but a few we have given you

Tell me your stories; your hopes and all your dreams

And I’ll share mine with you

You know I believe in everything

And we can make them all come true

On the train station platform

So many words rang true

Virginia sang our song

We learned it through and through

“You can’t find peace by avoiding life”

“The patient must have a say in her treatment”

“I live with it too”

We cried because we knew what it all meant.

Through many moves and roller coasters

You and your love stayed by my side

You know I’d be there for you too

We’ve all got nothing to hide

I thank goddess for you,

Because of all the times you are here

All the hospitals, times I needed you

I never ever feared

Today I celebrate you

In my humble little way

For all that you are to me

Anam Cara, Happy Birthday.

What a wonderful tribute to your friend Erin. She will truly be very thrilled with this - especially the lovely poem. Friendships such as these are so wonderful. I have a number of very close friendships that were formed at the age of five. We are still in touch and don't see each other as much as we would have liked to. When we do meet up however it is as though we have never been apart. This is a lovely hub to share with others.

Thank you acaetnna, I hope she will be thrilled with it, I know she will laugh many times over and even cry at some of it! Yes, age five when school started and our life long friendships were formed in the first grade. We can travel far and wide and somehow we find ourselves bound to those who touch us so deeply we know they'll share our lives forever. We always joke about how we are going to be living together when we are ninety. Its funny how most of my friends are those I've had since the school days now that I've come back to where I grew up. My anam cara though, she and I never lose touch. Thank you for coming by and commenting, Love and Peace!

..that's a really really nice picture of the two of you - and the reason she is such a good friend is because she has one in you!!!

thanks Epi, we kind of did it at the same time, so I think we kind of trained each other to be that way :) That's it! Brainwashing! I don't know what I'd do without her. The picture at the top was taken this past Halloween when I was a fairy and she was a woodland elf. We said that we are going to take the same picture at Halloween forty years from now when we are eighty so we can put them side by side on a table in our house.

Roni wanted me to post this:

My wonderful, beautiful AC ~ what a touching, lovely, funny, tear-provoking tribute! I am almost speechless...almost...you know I am never really speechless! LOL FYI, I've been trying to join Hub Pages for weeks now so I can follow you and ...post my own writings as you asked me to do. Each time, I get to the end of the form and it asks me to type the 2 scrambled words shown. But there are no scrambled words on the page and I can't find any answers to my problem on their FAQ. Maybe you can contact the powers that be on Hub and tell me what I should do. Now you've written this awesome page for me and I can't even comment on it! :( It makes me sad and angry that it looks like I didn't even read it!

I love you sweetie! Thank you so much again for my beautiful page...I love it!! :)

VV68, Yes, lifelong friendships are the best - and I have several that I cherish. She and I have literally been through everything I can imagine - and some things I think we never thought we'd have to deal with but I'm so glad she was there with me through it all. Thanks for stopping by to read and comment! Love and Peace!

B., Yes, childhood friends are priceless. For a few years I moved away from the area where I live now, and now that I moved back to where my old friends have grown up and settled, it feels like coming back to a warm blanket. I've always had the gypsy blood in me to wander and can settle in foreign places, but I never lose touch. My Anam Cara also has this, and luckily for us, also has a wonderful husband who is loving and supportive of our dreams. As the children grow older, who knows where we'll end up! Dreams, Dreams, Dreams...one thing we do have in common. Whether we act on them or not. Half the fun is in knowing that we are both dreamers and that we would know if the time was right and the stars aligned again. Thanks for visiting and commenting! Love and Peace.

Ruby, thanks for reading and commenting! You are so welcome, and I think that friendships like this are meant to be shared! I don't know how many people have just stopped in restaurants or festivals and just listened to our conversations and laughed and laughed. Its great when two crazy people find each other! Love and Peace!

Sally, I know how lucky we are, I thank goddess for her every day. I am so lucky in my life in regard to the wonderful people I know, including you all here on hub pages - In friends, I am a rich woman. I don't know what the problem could be on the scrambled words. I can always have her sign up on my laptop when I see her this week, but every post requires those silly scrambled words now. Thank you for your wishes!!! Love and Peace.

Thanks for writing Rich! I had dinner with my Anam Cara tonight. Almost choked on my food we were laughing so hard. That's what best friends are all about.

For any of those following, she is on hubpages now, although she hasn't put anything up yet. When she does she will be Pandora9. I'll send out an alert or a tribute to her hubpages debut.

Great ode to your friend, the Goddess of Grammar. Sounds like she could have been helpful with some of my English papers! Well written; glad you have such friendship in your life. Cheers.

Doug, she wears the sweatshirt that says "I'm the grammarian about whom your mother warned you." She makes me laugh harder than anyone in the world and also has seen me break down more than anyone probably ever has. I don't know what I'd do without her.

She has a hub now, if anyone would like to follow my Anam Cara, she goes by Pandora9. I'm sure she'd love it if you stopped by...I plan to! Love and Peace!

You're like the Yin and Yang of Taoism belief among Chinese. Really, opposite poles attract.

Thanks for sharing this tribute to your friend A.C. (aka Pandora9).

Romano, Taoism is near and dear to my heart. Thanks for finding your way to my hub page and commenting. I'll have to come and check you out :) Brightest Blessings
