Loving A Police Officer

My Thoughts

Being in love with a Police officer has its ups and downs not knowing when they walk out if they are coming home. There are times when you do not receive a single phone call and become distraught, waiting in anticipation for the information to come across the scanner letting you know that they are safe and out of harms way. Many do not realize what a stressful career a police officer has, they are constantly placed in the way to protect and serve our cities and the people that reside there.

Becoming an officer takes endurance, stamina and intelligence the test is quite tedious and the physical agiility test is strenuous. They go through weeks of skilled training before they go out into the field. Officers specialize in different areas such as Drug Enforcement, Criminal Investigation, Dive Team and Task Force amongst others. Being an officer is not for everyone there are so many different types of people with different types of characteristics to deal with on a daily basis. They are taunted as well by malicious people stereotyping who they are. Officers do not just sit around  drinking coffee and eating doughnuts they protect and serve, Many do not believe that they are entitled to a break however just like any job they try to slip a break in when they can. If you are married to a police officer you can understand and if you are not married to a police officer Take a moment out of your time and visualize a crime happening in your area right now, at this very moment and ask yourself could you place yourself in harms way when a crime is being committed and being willing to place your life on the line? Could you make the decision to kill someone , when you have to save a dozen other people and be able to sleep at night? Being an officer is much more complicated then them driving around in a police car and handing out tickets. They are there to keep you safe from someone taking your life. The next time you see an officer you should thank them for protecting you. I would personally like to thank all of the men and women who do this everyday and nobody understands what they go through until you are in love with an officer and hope that they will come home safely into your loving arms.

I never knew how important they were till I met one personally and fell in love with him, he doesn't go home to me but to someone else. It hurts so much that I'm scared to confess the truth to him but everyday I think about him and pray that whenever he is on duty that the Lord protect him and guide him through many harsh times. I love him with all my heart...

Excellent hub and it's great to see you take pride in being in love with a police officer. It is one of the most respectable jobs out there.

Hi, I saw this link in your RedGage, and just have to read it.

My father was a police officer; a very strict person, man of few words, and a very unloveable guy. We became friends in his old age, that was few years before he died. I guess the reason why we don't have a good relationship at the onset was because, he was not always home.

Men in uniform are very attractive to women, what with the 'macho' image and all that. In our country, most of them are womanizers.

Good hub, voted up.

This is very true! Not only am I in love with an officer but my brother was one as well and he lost his life while serving and protecting others! I understand that there are some bad cops out there but most of them are the greatest men and women that u will ever meet!

itseybit: I think that some officers can tend to be a little cold do to the fact of there job, especially homicide. I think a lot of woman go through this do to the fact it's a stressfull job and there's things that they can't share depending on the case.

itseybit 4 years ago

I'm in love with a policeman,he retired about 1year ago but still works on cases(criminal invest) I really care for him.but do other ladies fine the officers to be kind of cold?or is it just mine.Do you think they lock there feeling up? he did do homocide for sometime. He was active officer for 37 years.

GistingRosePetals, this is an excellent hub and very meaningful. Public servants in general are very often not given the respect and admiration they deserve. And law enforcement officials top the list. It is wonderful to hear it from your point of view. I have found your hubs very enjoyable and look forward to reading more. Voted up and awesome.

My experience with police officers has not been the greatest. Probably Wisconsin is a different place though. I am sure that I ran into the worst of the lot.

On the other hand there are a lot of other jobs as dangerous...

Hi GlstngRosePetals, you made a valid concern. I m not in love with a Police officer, but my father is one and it frightens everyone of us when he doesn't return for a little late in night. we call him and he says he is fine, that's when we know 'everything is alright'.

But yeah, their lives are always on the line.

JamesLynch: Thankyou for your comment and it is a though provoking article because there are so many people that are against police officers out there and like in my article there just men and woman going to work and doing the job there supposed to do just like everyone else and they have family at home that love them. I think it's a shame that so many police officers life's get taken from an individual commiting a crime. I thank you for your comment.

A police officer is such an honorable job and they are doing their best to keep the peace. The different divisions allow them to do the best in their special line of work. Total respect for all those working round the clock to keep us safe at night. Great hub.

Generally Police officers are dealing with criminals and they suspect everything, living with such profession will be if you have such patience to accept that type of behaviour..

Thanks, me and my husband are both police officers and I worry when he's at work. And I know he worries when I'm at work, but it's who we are, and we understand each other so much more than a spouse that's not in law enforcement

A cop with gratitude: I thankyou so much for your comment. I also thankyou for putting your life on the line to protect me and others..May God watch over you while your at work and bring you home every day safely to your family..

A Cop with gratitude 6 years ago

Thank you for posting such appreciation. I am currently a female police officer of 6 yrs., and am well aware of what effect my chosen profession has had on my significant other and entire family. I almost feel guilty at times having chosen such a life style. It's a sacrifice that everyone you love is altered by. I have been punched, kicked, spat on, bit, out numbered, cursed at, belittled, etc., and targeted unprovoked by individuals with little to no decency or humanity. All while maintaining my "cool and integrity"-which by the way is an ultimate test of true character. Every night I put on that uniform and go to work I pray to loved ones that have passed to assist me and and my co-workers. I have been "lucky" on so many occasions which almost lead to serious injury or death. This I owe to those who have watched over me. Displaying yourself in uniform while in public for 12 hours makes you a sitting duck. Those who voted that police officers lives are not always on the line are existing in state of unawareness. Oh to live in that cloud again of ignorant bliss. I hardly remember anymore how that felt. Miss it at times though-must be relaxing. I have given up some of life's most precious moments in order to watch over people so that they can live theirs in peace. I don't regret it, but just hope people realize that there are some fair, honest, brave cops left. Thank you for reading.

-God Bless-

My wife married a cop(Moi) and then one of her sons joined the thin blue line. She worried about me while I was working and still worries about him. But there you go. We love her for it!

Great hub, and so true. Being a policeman is a very stressful and dangerous job, and they do it for us. I've always said it takes a very special person to be able to stand the stress involved in loving an officer. :D
