Betrayal: The Cost

Loyalty yeilded

April Poetry Month Poem19

I stand before myself

awaiting the reprimand

I chose my course of action

Failing to turn aside

From moments

seized unwisely

Rather than oppose.

~

In this taking

loyalty yielded

before needs aching

(Foolish waste)

Ah, the cost

Beloved and lover, both lost

I suffer the chill

The death of innocence

Betrayals frost

This is powerful, painful, and tragic. I wish everyone could read this before they made such a decision. Great poem!

Compelling and painful, but still a good read.

Voted up and beautiful, Joyce.

This has a feeling of loss and leaves you feeling sad. It is exactly how you feel when you have made a deicision of betrayal. Good poem.

Oh, so sad. I am not convinced that people who betray in this manner really know the pain and loss of sometning (faith? trust? love?) that can never be fully recovered. Forgiving is easier, but that painful knowledge lurks in a sore spot of the mind, just enough to nag the bearer and break the heart over and over again. The pain of betrayal is unbearable and impossible, yet, it forces itself in and rapes the soul without mercy! The perpetrator must be a vicious enemy, but an apology comes, followed by declarations of remorse and love. You melt and give in. What is this that makes one risk more?

Loved the poem.

Levertis, a wonderful comment. You are right. You may forgive the act, but it's like a bell that has been cracked. It never rings true again.

Thanks for the visit. Ann Davis
