Favorite Wedding Themes 2014

When you start exploring wedding options, you may find yourself quickly overwhelmed by the sheer number of ideas and possibilities. To help you find the best direction for your wedding day vision, make choosing a theme one of your first steps. Once you have determined a theme, all of your Pinterest browsing and shopping will be much more focused. Of course, that makes choosing a theme a major decision, but once you find a theme that captures your personality and style, you are well on your way to a memorable day.

What is a theme, exactly? Some people simply choose a color theme, while others focus more on an overall style or feel. Some people get really specific and select a certain movie, place, or historical era they wish to capture. For inspiration, consider these popular 2014 wedding themes provided by a Greensboro Wedding Rental company:

Rustic: Rustic weddings aim for a homespun feel with elements like wooden crates, hand-painted signs and banners, mason jar centerpieces, twine accents, rougher fabrics, and simple, hand-tied flowers. Outdoor venues, parks, and refurbished barns have been favorite choices of those aiming for a rustic theme. These weddings can range from a cleaned-up, glammed up rustic, where some rustic elements are mixed in or enhanced with more traditional wedding fare, to more truly rustic weddings that have more of a county fair or town picnic sort of feel.

Vintage: A vintage theme can result in a unique and fun event, and the hottest era to channel right now is the 1920s, Great Gatsby elegance. Capture the shimmer and excitement of this era with striking patterns, elaborate centerpieces, and lots of shine and sparkle. Some key features of this type of vintage wedding might include vintage tableware and linens, dresses with sleek silhouettes but plenty of lace or bling, a live band to channel the sounds of the era, and lighting that involves chandeliers. Gold, silver, crystal, pearls, and luxurious fabrics also help bring to life this roaring 20s high-roller vibe. Hotels, restaurants, and more urban settings lend themselves well to this theme.

Beautiful Country Barn Wedding

Garden: Soft and romantic yet sophisticated, a garden party theme provides a more natural and subdued incarnation of the vintage theme described above. As expected, flowers take center stage in a garden party theme, with graceful, organic, and often oversized arrangements. Lace, florals, and pale colors are often the fabrics of choice. The garden theme could skew slightly rustic, more Victorian, or take on more of an early 20th century formal tea feeling. A country club, outdoor venue, park, or anyplace that incorporates or overlooks a beautiful outdoors space provides the perfect starting point for a garden-themed wedding.

Woodland: Woodland themed weddings are only recently emerging as a trend. They blend the natural feel of a rustic wedding with some of the refinement of a garden wedding, and add in a magical, ethereal element. If not taking place outdoors, these weddings certainly bring the outdoors in, featuring flower garlands and wreaths, and wooden and leafy accents. Nature is meant to take center stage in these themes, and this is often furthered by featuring a natural or neutral color scheme, even incorporating nature into fashion with floral hair wreaths or accents. This theme could very easily be given a fairy-tale type of bent as well.

Seasonal: Of course, the season of your wedding can also serve as thematic inspiration. Choose some colors and an element of the season to focus on, and you have an idea of your look. A seasonal focus could also be combined with any of the above themes, resulting in winter woodland or autumnal rustic.

Location: If you have a venue with a character of its own, you can also let the venue dictate the theme. A beach-side hall, a log cabin style chalet, or a classy golf course banquet hall can all point you in a thematic direction.

No matter what theme you choose, you’ll probably need a lot of materials, decorations, lights, linens, and more to fully execute your plan. Make one of your first priorites a wedding rental company so you can see the array of wedding pieces available for affordable rental. Who knows—you may even be inspired by their wedding collections and displays!

I like the variety you have presented here. My wedding many years ago was probably an "Old South" theme, and I was able to have both the ceremony and wedding at a historic plantation among willows and magnolias. Pinning to my "Weddings" board.

These are great choices for upcoming weddings. Ours was simple way back in the days, I would choose a garden setting today.
