Hatred of gay people is rampant, sometimes deadly, and long standing in history.

To most effectively fight hate in any identified group, there must be unity in the group.

In the current period of history, gay and lesbian people have to deal with a lot of hatred and contempt. Hatred manifests in many criminal ways whether obviously criminal or the less obviously criminal. Obvious crimes are assault leading to grievous bodily harm and/or death. Less obvious crimes are gossip campaigns that bring a person to destitution and a slow lingering death, excluded from the community. Hate even exists between gay people who differ in their gay expression, such as the main stream gay communities lack of support for transgender gay people. The sources and history are varied, but what we need to learn is to overcome and end this hatred. This is no easy task, nor can it be accomplished overnight. It has taken many people a long time to make progress measured by the inch and this in an atmosphere of confusion and peer pressure. Given all our human species intelligence, it is a wonder that we still hate across the spectrum of difference. The main problem when it comes to this hatred is ignorance and the refusal to learn new ways, preferring ignorance and darkness. For many it is hard to leave "tried and true" ways for unknown ways. In the face of religious and political propaganda that stands in the face of sexual liberation, the path to tolerance is difficult and fraught with peril. Recently, the battle has taken to the internet on the Facebook site.

Hatred manifests in the practical in the form of being excluded from the economy, whether being able to secure a job, renting an apartment, buying a house and property, going into various businesses or even to church. At worst there is entrapment, torture and death, all for being different. This manifests in virtually every country and region. Though some countries are moving in a more tolerant direction, some are steadfastly immobile or actually going the other way such as in Iran and Uganda.

Gays often turn on each other for reasons such as along lines of transgender, butch and fem, cross dressing, rich and poor and so on and this is counterproductive to the way against gay people outside of the gay community. Gay people are going to have to learn to tolerate differences among themselves if they are to fight hate directed at the gay community from the religious right, the conservatives and political oppressors. This is a very necessary first step if gay people are to organize against killing hatred. Gay people have to organize a counter propaganda. It is not enough to have a gay week and a parade once a year as we have to deal with life in a hostile environment year round. Handling gay pride this way is similar to being kind to people on Christmas day, but treating them in an awful manner every other day. Hiding is not an effective strategy for the long term. We live in a divide and conquer society where fear and hatred of the different runs across many lines of difference in humanity. Control of a large number of people is usaully accomplished with terror.

Gay people have to overcome self shame that has been programmed into them by all the anti-gay propaganda that exists in profusion. Nature is all about difference and adaptation to a wide spectrum of specific conditions. As part of nature, humanity is no different and gay people are part of that spectrum. In the animal kingdom, there exists a counterpart to the gay community, but there is no prejudice here. Animals have no problem in this area and people are regarded as being more intellectually developed and superior, but do have a problem here. As gay people are not obvious like the color divide, they can use subterfuge and hide to avoid being attacked. In the eyes of some, this survival tactic is lying. But camouflage as it proliferates in nature, is a form of deception to confuse the predator to allow survival of the camouflaged individual and thence the ability to pass on successful survival traits to the next generation. The first step for gay people is to build bridges with those in the straight community who are confident with their own sexual orientation and have no secret to hide from others. All to often, anti-gay attacks come from those who are confused and have negative beliefs about their own sexuality.

Gay people must build strong friendships with those in a variety of communities, for in unity comes strength and having some advocates in the right places is helpful. It will help in the greater struggle. There are those who will not be persuaded for any reason, even if they themselves are gay. There are at least two prominent pop-religious anti-gay bigots who fell from grace on account of being gay themselves.

Gay people with their allies must then loudly publicize where hate in all its expression is being performed. They must expose the hypocrisy of "tough love" that has no love except the love of power. They need to drive out hatred with education and encourage understanding. Humanity has a problem with hatred and prejudice and fighting hatred directed against gay people is one step in eliminating hatred and crimes associated with it. This is also a good step to eliminate hatred in general.

"Will God judge me for loving or judge you for hating?"

I find this the most outstanding statement I have heard in a very long time! Your hub offers some really good information and insight into the agression that we LGBT people must live with. You present your thoughts very clearly and I am well impressed.

Thank you for taking a moment to care for our community in such a loving manner. You Rock!

God, the real one hates sin--missing the mark in all forms. Both HE will judge! HE hates sin. Sin means to miss the mark of HIS image. Attraction to anyone to take HIS place in our hearts is considered spiritual adultery. Even if a husband puts his wife above loving God, it is a sin. Therefore since adulterers put sexual 'intimacy' above God it is missing the mark.

Strong attraction to another is sin when that person is set above relationship with God. The problem is that instead of looking to and really depending on God to meet the need for acceptance, affirmation, recognition, identity--the person looks to others. That is idolatry be it husband, wife, teacher, peers. When a person uses sex, drugs, alcohol, work, others approval or admiration to make themself feel important or good, it is setting that other thing above God and it is all sin---missing the mark or idolatry. And idols cannot truly bring us or provide us the peace, the JOY, the love that only God can give.

Being attracted to a member of the same sex is missing the mark of God's highest and best. HE IS LOVE! ONLY He is able to fill the empty places in the soul. When God joins a man and a woman as husband and wife they become one and HIS Spirit sings through the love that they share and express to each other. The Spirit of God cannot sing through the joining of two members of the same sex--they do become joined spirits and souls. But the experience is simply one of the physical senses and is far less than what God created sexual intimacy for. I pray with all my heart that He illumines these Truths to minds and hearts HE brings to read this.

Yeshua took all guilt, all shame, all sin upon Himself when He went to HIS death. His Blood and HIS resurrection empower us to conquer all sin and to actually project HIS true image of LOVE to the world. It is God's love that motives Christians to speak the truth that homosexuality is a sin. God hates all sin.

NOW some "Christians" that are motivated by fear, and/or a religious spirit do spew hate and yes, God hates that too. God loves people that are attracted to the same sex for affection, approval, admiration etc. BUT HE HATES homosexuality. IT is missing the mark. It like every other sin is idolatry--using something or someone OTHER than HIM to fill a need.

It is exactly this kind of confusion spread by deliberate Biblical misunderstanding that creates all this division and hatred. It is written; "This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you." John 15:12-14

Yes, God hate sin and so do I, but you know what; there is less condemnation for the murder of millions of children as foreign policy than there is in the continual attack and torturing of those who only wish to love one another. There is something desperately wrong in all of this. Again, it is written; "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" Jeremiah 17:9

Further, Jesus in his single act of violence was against the money changers in the temple. We do not know if any of them were gay, but we do know they were practicing usury (interest) and Jesus drove them out of the temple. Do we see any condemnation of bankers today from Christian quarters to the same extent they pour out brimstone against gay people? I haven't seen it! As for me, my greater anger is toward the bankers who have collapsed the economy and placed hundreds of millions in hunger and homelessness.

"And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." Matthew 25:40
